Varicose Veins

I am not sure where to post this because I can not find a vein thread going on. I am 43 and have some varicose veins in my left leg. One is a large on in my inner left leg. It is bulging a bit and ripply looking for about 4 inches or so. I had an appointment 4 years to have it stripped or removed at a vein center but then I chickened out. I am so afraid something will go wrong and I will get a blood clot having it done. Does anyone know the risks involved? I really want to do it and many of my family members have but I am scared. I did have an aunt die of a blood clot to the lung after she had gall bladder surgery. She was 65. I am just scared. Any suggestions?:confused:
 
i got mine done 20 years ago if you are worried about a blood clot that can happen if you lie down all the time after the op my son got his toenails removed and he did get a blood clot because the doctor did not tell him he had to exercise the clot was caused by lying in bed to long and if you think you will need bedrest ask the doc for some aspin to keep the blood thin you will be fine i meant to tell you my son would not have the blood clot if he had been told to exersise now he has to take warfan he was only 27 when he took it
 
my grandmother had hers done years ago with great results. The biggest risk for blood clots comes with staying in one position for too long, so as long as you move around afterwards, your risk would be very small. (i.e. don't go home and confine yourself to a sofa or bed, or if you sit all day, get up and move as much as possible).

Ya, I am extremely worried about getting a blood clot. More than keeping the vein in. I would move around plenty after the surgery. I just don't want to get a clot and I want to know how high the risks are. Thanks!
 
the risks are not high because after the op the docters make you walk a lot it was the chiropist who told my son to rest and his own doc told him he would never advised him to rest but if you explain your fear and there is a history of blood clots in your family the hospital will probable put you on a blood thining tablet
 
I don't think they even strip veins anymore. They have come up with a new procedure called vnus closure. It closes the varicoise veins and the blood finds new avenues to flow. I had it done in both of my legs and then sclethropy (sp) twice. It really helped my legs. I still have some veins showing, but never as bad as they looked before. I was lucky that my insurance paid for it all, otherwise it would be quite expensive.
