Valve Adjustments

 Hi everyone,

I have a new 2006 C50 and I was told when bought it that it would need a valve adjustment done at about 600 miles.

I have a little over a thousand and it seems to be riding perfect. Is the valve adjustment necessary?

Tight valves don't affect engine performance until damage occurs. The recommended valve adjustment is to prevent that.

As valve and camshaft parts wear in, valve clearances often shrink. Once they shrink too far, the valves don't fully close and you get exhaust blowing past and burning things.

No, you're not likely to do any damage right away, but since the fastest wear period has passed it makes sense to get the valves back in spec. Then they're usually good for a long time.

Oh, and I suggest you get a manual and do it yourself. Dealers are notorious for doing sloppy jobs, if they do anything at all for your $300.

check the m50 forum, and do a search.

I checked around, and the consensus from both dealers, and owners is that the valves dont need adjustment until at least 4 to 5 k. I did mine at 5, and they were not that far out.

As for doing it yourself, i totally recommend it, its not that difficult. and other than time, its nothing that someone with just moderate mechanical skills cant do.
