Valkyria Chronicles (TV) Talkback

Max is indeed voiced by Jun Fukuyama, Lelouch of the rebellion himself.

And of course everytime I hear Chikao Ohtsuka's voice as Gregor, I always think back to Dr. Eggman/Robotnik, since both characters are own by Sega and Ohtsuka does both characters. And Akio Ohtsuka is Solid Snake.

Otherwise, this episode was a fun ride, humor was great for what it was worth.

Largo cleaning the toilet was awesome.

Pretty good, although I'm surprised that at the end Isara stated her willingness to go on the mission without a problem. Considering episode 3, I was expecting some sort of negative reaction from Largo or Brigitte.

Anyhow, it'll be interesting to see how Welkin pulls this operation off. The humor in this was okay, although I almost hope they tone it down before too long lest it becomes too difficult to take Alicia seriously.

Also, what's with the pig? Heh.

Besides the pig being made of win and awesome? That pig is your savior. Believe it!

Either way, I thought Maximillian was Lelouch. Also, Gregor has Captain Shunsui's voice from Bleach which is rather awesome considering the laid-back attitude he has. Makes me think Gregor will be one of those cool badguys you like and don't want to die. D:

And Taekmkm, I meant the Japanese version. If you knew that and I'm getting wooshed, then I shall preemptively woosh myself. Woosh.

Made it through 7. It's a bit convenient that Welkin, Faldio, and Alicia discovered the same ruins that the Emperor and his minion were exploring, but it'll be interesting to see what happens next. After a handful of standard missions mixed in with decent but forgettable light episodes, it's nice to see this getting down to business with some exposition and backstory.

That fat general is just going to go on being an idiot, isn't he?

He's a jerk in the game, but they're really laying it on thick here.

The soundtracks advancing far better in spots. I like the remixed Sylvaria theme (when Sylvaria and Maximillion are in the torabs), and the symphony that plays during Fladio's discussion about the Darcsen Calamity.

They are really playing at the Faldio/Alicia thing too. Not so much pairing as much as a growing frienRABhip. Then again, in anime, you have more chances to build on things you couldn't in a game, so that's good too.

I also liked Sylvaria's remixed theme in this episode.

I've finally caught up with the anime, and decided that I didn't like things they're doing with the adaptation and shall stop following this series and just stick with the games.

Bumpity-bump because I'm finally watching some of my backlog!

Not being a gamer, I was unfamiliar with Valkyria Chronicles coming into the series, but it looked intriguing enough, so I decided to check it out. Twelve episodes in, my verdict is that I'm enjoying it so far. It's not super fantastic wonderful by any means (that honor goes to Eden of the East ), but it's fun enough to follow.

I like the characters (though I cannot for the life of me separate Suzaku from Faldio and Lelouch from Maximillian when they open their mouths ) and find some of the dynamics pretty interesting. It was fun seeing Welkin work with Jaeger and Salvaria to rescue the princess, for instance, and I love the relationship between Faldio and Welkin. Plus, you know, that romantic stuff that's going on in the background.

I'm also enjoying how Welkin is slowly growing into his leadership position. It's obvious he has it in him, but the more he displays it, the more his squad respects him and the more he makes a name for himself. His unique personality is quite endearing. Love him.

The OP is absolutely wonderful (the shot with Alicia and Welkin looking at each other makes me giddy every time I see it) and the ending animation is hilarious. The pig is awesome--his expressions are great.

Not sure how it lives up to the game, but I'm definitely finding the anime to be enjoyable.

WelkinxAlicia ftw, amirite? Also, glad to hear you watched Eden of the East. Finally, you're getting time to watch some anime.

I agree for the most part. I haven't played the game either, but probably will when the anime finishes up so I don't spoil myself. Either way, I can't wait to see how Welkin handles things with Faldio trying to steal his woman (she's not his woman yet, but she should be!) right from under his nose. D:

What was really interesting about the latest story is how they did good by rescuing Cordelia, but also pretty much ended the plan to put Gallia under the Federation's protection in the process. This protects Gallia's independence while leaving it more at risk, which is a tough trade-off.

Probably the most surprising part is that they actually give some focus to the villains. Even Jeager, for all of his flaws, doesn't seem to be written as your standard bad guy.

The core cast does enough to keep it interesting. Welkin/Faldio/Alicia is a good dynamic, and special attention is given to two or three of the supporting soldiers. Thanks to that, the show hasn't suffered from "Too Many Characters Syndrome" just yet.

And yeah, the opening is great.

Considering this is HIMEKA's first single, I think she did a fabulous job.

I agree about the core characters in Faldio/Welkin/Alicia having a nice dynamic, but Isara is a nice character too. That and she's too cute. Also Hans.

I'm so behind on this, but they changed the opening. Even the song.

And it's incredible.

Hooray for dramatic camera angles!

Yeah, the new opening is great. 14 was also rather good, although tough to watch since victory came at such a high price. Jeager's quite a bastard.

Rosie's horror at what happened was good. With any luck she gets over her prejudice soon, because it's getting a bit tiresome at this point. Even Largo's moved on. If I were Welkin, I'd have slammed my foot down already.

Faldio's really stepped up as a legit character in his own right. His attraction to Alicia aside, he's also practical and has made tough decisions at a time when Welkin was hesitating. I wouldn't say he's necessarily a superior commander to Welkin, but Faldio does seem to compensate for what weaknesses Welkin has.

My opinion of these past two episodes. They're not good things, so I'll tag them in case somebody wants to go watch the episodes first in case they have a differing opinion before reading this:

They definately screwed up the death scene. They didn't even put in the song that I was waiting for Rosie to sing since the series started.

The way the game did it, it felt so military, and flowed so easily, it was beautiful.

So now that I've actually beaten the game, this show is put in a very interesting light.

First of all, the Naggiar content has been pretty good. Faldio's actions occur for a different set of reasons, but it's powerful stuff and it keeps the fundamental reason intact. He's left seeing no other way. Fans might say that they preferred to see him make the choice as a cold calculation rather than in response to tragedy, but I think it works both ways. In the show he has doubts and he's trying to decide how to act on what he knows about Alicia, and then his hand is forced. We actually see him struggle with the choice. It makes sense.

In contrast, I think the anime got too liberal with Alicia for awhile. Early in the series she was your stereotypical "tsunadre," constantly at odRAB with Welkin and his eccentric interests. In one episode she's going out of her way to stop him from being interviewed because she thinks he'll be erabarrassing. That's very unlike the game, where she has a level head most of the time and an interest in Welkin that is, quite frankly, very thinly disguised. I find game Alicia to be more likable, although she's thankfully become much more kind and maternal in the last few episodes. But by all rights, she should have been like that all along.

There's also what might be a very interesting change when it comes to Cordelia, but I won't say much about that right now.
