V3xx vs N75

I do a lot of web browsing and would like 3G. Am considering the MotoRAZR V3xx instead of waiting for the N75. I?ve seen many positive comments in the Motorola forums, but naturally those are Moto enthusiasts, so I thought I?d solicit the more critical opinion of Nokia partisans here.

I had a first-generation RAZR and wasn?t impressed. The UI was clunky and poorly designed, screen resolution was low, voice quality was distorted especially on speakerphone, and the VGA camera was far inferior to the VGA camera in my 6620. I gave it to a friend after I had hacked it to death. He took it to Panama, had it revived there at a shop he knew, and kept it with my blessings.

By all accounts the V3xx is a vast improvement. They say the UI has been revamped, the screen is larger with a higher resolution, audio is clearer, and the camera is now 1.3 mp. And of course it has US 3G, which is supposed to work very well. My main reservation is the Opera browser, which I?m not fond of, and the camera, which I?m sure can?t measure up in any respect to the N75's.

Has anybody here had hands-on experience with the V3xx, and what did you think?
 
motorola and especailly its razr are crap, junk, garbage, only thing its good for is a shoe horn or snow scraper

and trust me i am not being a nokia fanboy, cause the new N76 is just as fugly and i think its pathetic how much nokia focused the creation of the N76 around the razr
 
1. This is the S60 forum. We hate RAZRs. You're going to get a VERY biased opinion in here.

2. The N75 runs S60v3. This is a smartphone OS and is such because nearly literally ANYTHING you can think of to do with your device, you can do it. Seriously, try me. Also, you can multitask. This is key for 3G.
 
Honestly the original razr were strong but voice quality, and everything else about it was garbage. I dislike MOTO with a passion. They were very close to going under until they struck gold with the razr. Depending on how you use the phone, I would make a choice then. If you work out in the field and drop your phone a lot or need a paperweight, then go with the razr. Other than that, for all other uses, go with the n75.
 
I'm indebted to you for reminding me about multitasking. I've used S60 for so long that I take it for granted. Even if the V3xx does a good job with e-mail, web, contacts, etc., it can't keep any two apps open simultaneously. I'd have to end a web session just to check my calendar, and then start it all over again. This is a deal-breaker for me, and I won't be getting the RAZR.
 
I would also go for the N75. Im not a biased to any company even though my avatar says Motorola. I think the V3xx is alright for the price if you are getting it with contact.. But the N75 will be the superior choice if you want a better phone overall. Looks like a nice phone. How much is it price wise?

With a two-year contract the V3xx is $39.99. The N75 hasn't yet been released but will probably be somewhat more than that. I'll wait for the N75, precisely because, as you say, it's a better phone overall.
 
I'm definitely waiting for that phone. I switched to my 6682 as my primary Cingular phone (aside from my COU) and put the Cingular Sync away. I am tempted to get the HTC 3125 as I wait as I am very bored and need to get a new phone. The n75 looks to be a real good phone and may get me to part with my 6682.
 
I was only able to put up with the HTC 3125 for about a week -- it has poor RF reception and poor voice quality. People would ask me, "Are you on that cell phone again?!" But is sure was pretty.
 
v3xx has newer UI which is way better then the old razr's. Since you do a lot of web browsing i would suggest something with a bigger screen.
 
I still have the V3 and had the V3xx for a month. Now I have the N73. Nuff said...

Maybe one thing, the Moto will run more Java games (and faster) than at least my N73. Must be a JVM compatibility issue. That's about it.
 
I really wish that the S60 would allow more use of the active standby. I want to put a program that displays multiple timezones on there. I used to have this on my WM5 phone and it was awesome.

Do you know of any app that can do this?
 
Not currently, but remember, WinMo has had the active standby for a while now, whereas S60 just got it a little while back. We're already starting to see more customization for it, like on the E65, and I believe from the Feature Pack 2 (which should be on devices available at the end of this year) it will allow what you're requesting. Give it time. (no pun intended)
 
In the active standby plug ins settings page, there's an item for active standby apps. Does that mean that any app in the active standby list can utilize the active standby space in the 'home page'? I don't see any other reason why it would be there. If that's the case, it's probably just a matter of the third party software developers to take advantage of it. Just wishful thinking


Also does feature pack 2 mean a firmware upgrade or a phone upgrade?
 
bostonirishguy, I wonder if I can trouble you for a favor. Unless I overlooked some posts, you're the only person here who currently owns a Cingular-branded N75. I expect an unbranded version to arrive from CTI-Miami a few days after April 6, and I'm concerned about the internet settings. I want to be sure I'm connecting to the correct servers for UMTS access without trespassing on the PDA servers, which supposedly aren't authorized for this phone. The settings may not be available from Cingular for a while, except on pre-configured handsets. Could you post the information that appears for each access point in Connection Settings, including the advanced settings? I'll keep that valuable information permanently. Many thanks if you can.
 
Send me a pm to remind me. I'm not sure if the phone will read most settings from your SIM anyway.

As for the April 6 date, I wouldn't hold your breath.
 
Forget about the settings. I'll obtain them when the time comes. I do need to update my SIM, which is a couple of years old and not a 3G, but otherwise that shouldn't be a problem. SIMs are not phone-specific within the universe of GSM phones.

As for the release date, I'm confident of it, based on a building drumbeat from dealers and Cingular reps as reported in these forums. The phone has to come out some day, so why not April 6?
