I'm 19 y/o and looking to buy a cruiser motorcycle and narrowed it down to these too cuz of the price and size. Anyone have any info. on which is better and how they ride? thanks

the vstar is 1100 cc? vs 600 cc both twins ....
what kind of riding u plan on ?
around town short trips = 600
longer rides or camping out =v star
vlx is better looking sleaker...
v star is more classic
neither will be great at a real biker bar

The VLX is the better machine. I have 72,000 miles on a '95. It handles well. Wife rode mine out in the Texas Hill Country and on several rides of 200 miles (one way).

The VStar is under powered, for its size, requires frequent valve adjustment.

Which ever one you chose will be fine as they are both great bikes. Brand loyalty clouds some peoples judgement. When it comes to the big four Japanese they are all great bikes with good records. Buy the one that stirs your heart then you will want to ride it.

The Honda VLX600 is S-----L------O-------W, its geared high with ONLY a 4 speed transmission
going at a normal speed limit you have to scream the engine.

The Yamaha V Star 650 is a much better choice with a super reliable, bullet-proof engine!

Vstar classic, my wife has one, with a hyper charger, dyna 3000 ignition, and a nice set of custom pipes she has no problem keeping up with the big boys on our Harley's when out for a ride.

Shaft drive makes it smooth, but, it is not equipped with a radiator like a honda, strictly air cooled. In my opinion, radiators belong on cars, just one more thing can go wrong on a motorcycle.

Have run her vstar through the desert on a road trip when the temp was 107 outside, never had a problem. Use a good 20/50 oil like AMS oil and you will never have a problem with it.

And, oh yea, almost forgot, her's is a 1999 has well over 65,000 miles on it and runs great. Not a lot of bikes that size can make that kind of claim.

She smokes vlx's, and, with the addition of her mustang seat and windshield, 400 mile days are so easy she has energy to go dancing afterward.
