Just checked on Amazon and VfV DVD is to be released on 31st July. Pre-order available.

If you have not already seen, it this is one amazing film.

Well worth two hours of anybodys time.

Apologies if this has already been posted.

To be honest, its nothing like the matrix (I thought, anyway). Its a much better and rounded film. But it is definitely the undertones of the film that make it special.

I mean, who would have thought - in todays world - that anyone could get away with a film that promotes terrorism!!?? Promotes it - positively glorifies it! Not only that, but a call to bring down a government - possibly THE government??!!.

(Before anyone jumps on me, just google VfV and read some of the serious reviews and analysis of the film/comic).

Then you shouldn't be disappointed. But there is some 'matrix' style stuff in there, but beautifully understated (my opinion - one of the best fight scenes in a film ever - bar none!).

Apologies for all the gushing, but not been this excited about a DVD release since.........betamax.

Are you talking about
the final fight sequence after V has just been shot? Because I loved how the spinning knives left a sort of trail behind in the air :)

I am sure I read before that V For Vendetta will only be available as a 2 disc special edition from HMV on the offical release date. You will only be able to get the basic 1 disc edition from anywhere else!

Thought it was a bit... well.. badly done myself. They removed all the ambiguity of motivation from the comic book that made it such an interesting story. They merely made V the "good guy" and the government "the bad guy". Portman was also dreadful in it.

Meh.. maybe I expected too much.

Nope, can't completely disagree with this. I just felt that the overall storyline (terrorism - depending on your point of view) and V's actions (as opposed to his character) made the story compelling, and very well made indeed.

Portman? Jury's still out on her, but I thought she did ok.

This is a wierd bit - I don't mind admitting that there's something in this film that I haven't quite put my finger on yet. Something that really does lift it out of the ordinary into the extraordinary. So I've been reading the various critical comments/analysis about the original story and the film etc, online. A lot of other people also think the same.

Maybe its just me.

But don't let my ramblings spoil the film for you. Its still a great two hours of entertainment.

Yeah you right everybody is entitled to their own option although I have to say I really enjoyed V For Vendetta and thought it was a great film!
I saw this on DVDActive about the UK DVD release which confirms what I posted earlier about the 2 Disc edition:

"Warner Home Video has announced the release of V for Vendetta for the 31st of July, in both single and double-disc form. Both releases will feature an anamorphic widescreen (2.40:1) transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio, but if you want the extras you'll have to shop at HMV... We don't have the artwork at this time, but we can bring you a run-down of the specs. Check back soon for more info.

really?

Mhmm...normally im not impressed by 'theese' type of films, but I really liked this one, because it was original and didnt rely heavily on 'super cool moves' or 'special effects', it was rather deep which suprised me, not to mention a worst-case scenario vision of the future. I loved it, and for once i actually liked Natalie Portman too. :)

I might get the DVD.

Amazing film. Chillingly close to current UK events in some respects.. which is amazing when you consider the book was written in the 80's. I found it spooky. For example, 50 police officers were used to move a bloke protesting outside Parliament recently. I found myself thinking of V at that point.
