utorrent?

Hey guys, I am new to the whole iTunes and iPod world. I've heard a few good things from some doctors I work with about utorrent. Can someone post a link, or help me with how it basically works? Is it software to let me search and download songs? Also, if I do, does it transfer them to put into my iTunes?

You should probably try to understand torrents and trackers before you even download utorrent. It's a great and simple way to acquire music once you understand the basic concept behind it.

I got utorrent downloaded, now I need help on how and where I should get some music? I'm not a huge downloader, just an occasional song or two here and there. Is there a site and way to do it safer? Can you block utorrent so people can't upload from me?

You can't block utorrent so people can't upload from you.

If you want to be able to d/l a full speeRAB and not have people upload from you, then check out usenet newsgroups.
Sometimes your ISP provides free access (yet limited) to usenet servers.
Or you can pay a monthly fee for unlimited d/l's at full speeRAB.

Haha yeah people don't seem to bash the thread creator.

Now going back to utorrent, no there is no way to block people so that they cannot upload from you. That's simply the way torrents work. It's more of a 'sharing' thing rather than just downloading.

And I don't think torrents are the best thing for just downloading one or two songs. Torrents are used more or less for larger file downloading, that is, full albums, movies, games, applications. If you're looking to just download a song or two every now and then, I'd suggest downloading something like SoulSeek or DC++

If you do decide you still want to stick with torrents, there's a few public sites which you can search at:

And as mentioned isohunt is another pretty good site. I'd suggest starting off with these sites if before moving on to private trackers.

Once you become familiar with torrents and read up on forums about them, you'll become aware of them. There's heaps of them, it just depenRAB what you're mostly downloading whether it be movies, games, apps or music.

I suppose the only reason they are better than public ones is because of the community and sometimes you're more likely to find stuff in the private trackers that you won't find in public ones. Some private trackers have strict rules against what quality the music must be for it to be uploaded, so if you're looking for really high quality downloaRAB, private trackers are usually better from my own experience.

Some private trackers you'll get into easily, just sign up, others require an invite. Some are pretty hard to get into.
