Using WAP internet on android phone

Hello,

I am looking to buy myself a unlocked Nexus S to replace my LG GD510 but I had a question for the android community about using the cheap WAP internet on my android.

To get around the crazy data plan prices I was hoping to buy an unlocked phone and use my current $5/month unlimited WAP browser plan I have through Rogers. It is quite slow but since I'm rarely away from wifi it wouldn't be used very often.

Is this even feasible or just a pipe dream? I did a ton of googling on the subject but was unable to find any forum postings that answered this kinda of question.

Thanks in advance.

Michael

Hmmm I think it may be a pipe dream as some of the android phones require said data plan to do some of the things the android can do

Thats a bummer - I guess I`m stuck with just wifi.

I figured it would have worked because WAP is just the edge network, figured it would just be like switching from wifi to 3G.

Edge does work with android but depending on your carrier you may incur extra charges for not having the proper data plan. If I may ask which carrier do you use
