So I want to buy a new Honda Civic LX. I go on truecar.com and it says dealer cost is $16,658, a great price is less than $17,800, $16,946 is the best possible price, sticker is $19,305.
Well, I've called around and I have 4 dealers that are pricing around $16,946. I had one dealer who didn't know I looked at this site tell me he paid around $16,670 for the car.
Now, I have always assumed that dealers always lie about how much they paid for a car and "oh woe is me, I'm only making $300 on this car". Do you think the dealers cost for the car is a lie to the extent that truecar.com is a lie? How good is the price really if 4 different dealers are willing to sell at that price? Is there some trick that could be waiting for me here?
