Using my blackberry, if I join someone's wi-fi network, do I still have to

pay for it on my phone bill? I have a Blackberry. I connected to the internet via my wireless network at home, to download a few apps from the Blackberry store online. I didn't purchase a monthly plan from my phone provider for internet use, so I'm worried they might charge me for my use of the internet to download apps, even though I was on a wi-fi network. I've never used a "smartphone" before, so I'm new to the mechanics of internet use on mobile phones. Help!

Note: I didn't open the "browser" window. I obtained the Blackberry App World application, browsed the various apps on my phone and downloaded a few.
