Using my apple headphones as a microphone for skype?

Hey when i started up skype it said for me to test my microphone, i plugged in my apple headphones that came with my ipod and said a few sentences and it came out sucessfull because i could see the green bars go up. Then when i went to the menu a new window came up saying they found a new microphone device i thought that was my apple headphones so i clicked ok on the skype window. Now my microphones wont recieve any sound. How do i fix this
