I have mounds of fireants in my vegetable garden. Can I use Amdro fireant killer in the garden w/out harming vegetables for comsumption? Is there a organic fireant killer I could use instead?

I have heard this cure for ants of all kinds from several people.
I live in North Central Wisconsin & the soil in my yard is all sand..never knew there were so darn many kinds of ants until I moved here.
Anyway, one of the several people....old timers that have lived here all their lives...is to sprinkle CORNMEAL around where ever you see any kind of ant .....supposedly they eat the CORNMEAL & as it mixes with the juices in their bodies, they swell up & explode.
I have tried this & everywhere I have sprinkled the CORNMEAL, there aren't any more ants.
CORNMEAL is alot cheaper than all the chemicals out there & not dangerous either to birds, plants or animals
