using different phones for verizon

i would like to know if anybody knows if you can use a phone thats not given by verizon as a verizon phone, i saw a phone of the brand Sanyo and its not from T-Mobile or sprint or any other and it can be used as prepay but i really like it and i have verizon but i dont know if verizon will allow me to use it...if anybody knows and can help me out i would really appreciate it thanx!

Which carrier was the phone in question previously activated on? The brand of phone is not the issue, it's the network signal CDMA vs. GSM.

A CDMA phone will not work on a GSM network and visa versa, next is phone compatibility with it's new home network.

Very few carrier's will activate a branded phone from another network on their system. There are or used to be a few exceptions, but I haven't seen any done in quite some time.
