Used Toyota Camry - 1991 or 1994?

We are looking at two vehicles for sale. Our mechanic hasn't checked them out yet, but I'm debating as to whether or not an "old school" 1991 model or the new 1994 is better.

It seems that the 1991 Camrys have very high consumer ratings, and I myself prefer the older cars. I realize about the no airbag problem, but I also know that airbags all too often don't even deploy anyway, according to my research. I also feel more comfortable behind the wheel of an older car.

As far as "looks", it doesn't really mean anything to me. I need reliability above all else.

I would appreciate any opinions on this. The mileage on the 1991 is 105,000. I don't yet have the mileage on the 1994.

Thanks in advance.

i know someone who had a 91 camry and she loved it. she never had many problems with it, and it was basically indestructible.

When considering an older vehicle try to find out as much history as possible. Ask which parts have been replaced. After 105,000 some parts may be worn out. If shocks/struts have been replaced that's a big bonus because they are expensive. Check the tire wear, will they last a while? Was the car well maintained or neglected? Nothing wrong with an old car if most the major parts have been replaced. Get the car that is the best value for the money, the year doesn't really matter. Personally I prefer to buy vehicles from private sellers listed in the classified ads. That way you meet the seller and he/she can tell you all about the history. My family has owned a few Toyotas, they are good quality, smart built cars. They are designed to be easier to repair/replace parts and the motors outlast the competition
