Does anyone know the history of bookbags? By that I mean what type of bags were used by kids going to school in the 1930's, 40's, 50's, etc, up to modern bookbags. Pictures/links?
I can't help you (without researching) until 1975 when I went off to Junior High School and needed my first book-bag... they were MUCH smaller then: they could handle two or three textbooks, a half dozen "PeeChee" folders, and had a small pocket for pencils/ pens. They were typically single color rip-stop nylon backpacks.
We kept our books in our LOCKERS unless you really needed to study at home. I have seen the poor kids today lugging around half their own body-weight in their bags !!
