Use higher octane fuel for stock ford?

I drive an 02 Ford Taurus. I'm think about using higher octane fuel. Will that damage the fuel injectors or anything? I'm also thinking about getting a performance chip for it. I just need to know if the higher octane fuel would damage anything in the fuel system.

I know its just a Ford Taurus and nothing close to any racing type of vehicle. But I think it'd be nice to pump out a lil more horsepower out of it. I think the Taurus would be a nice sleeper if you will. Any other upgrade ideas are welcome! But getting a new car is out of the question right now!
 
skull dude above is correct.

About the only easy thing you could do is upgrade the ignition. High voltage coil, some low resistance plug wires such as Taylor Spiro-Pro. At least I don't think the Taurus has seperate coils for the plugs. Always stay with factory spark plugs though.

You might also try a K&N drop-in filter, not the 'cold air' kits as they are in reality usually 'hot air' kits.

I had a Taurus once, it was a good car. Handles suprisingly well for a fwd sedan.

I agree with skull dude on the fuel though - complete waste of money. The car is tuned to run on cheap gas so it can't take advantage of higher octane gas. Total waste of money. No benefit at all. Also, rarely do you get any performance increase from a chip. About all they're good for is removing speed limiters, adjusting idle quality and otehr stuff that doesn't need done unless you have major upgrades like a cam, fuel system, etc.
 
well truth is car would run better if you hads been using it all along.. but you want to know what type or brand gets you the best mileage you fill up at place you alway stop at fil up with best they have set mileage drive til it needs to fill up again try next lower type the one that gets you the best miles the one to use there then stop at place you sometimes stop at and do the same thing its like my nissan gets great mileage with shell high octane but gets the same with mobil regular something you as drive has to find out which and what brand and types gets you the best mileage be it regualr or high octane an dif you add chip higher octane the better
 
Higher octane won't do anything in the slightest for your performance.

It's designed for a specific octane. It won't care if you go higher, because it isn't told to do anything different. It won't damage anything, but you won't be any faster. Waste your money if you want.

Get a performance chip if you want, but they lean out your fuel mixture.

Which damages your pistons. And destroys your engine. Have fun with that.

There's a reason no SERIOUS performance car owner touches chips at all.

It's a Ford Taurus. It won't be a serious racer, it won't be a sleeper. It's an economy grocery getter. Let it do what it does best.
