Hey,
I have a Nokia 6620 and i was wondering if I could configure the d-pad to do certain things, like goto messages or camera, like the two softkeys. Is there anyway i can map the d-pad to do this?

The 6620 can.
I have FW 4.23.2 (unbranded) on my 6620 and I can assign functions to my d-pad. Left: new SMS, up: FExplorer, right: calandar, down: Calcium.

BTW: this feature was not availabe with my default FW (3.14.1 or something).

My firmware is 2.14.1, which seems pretty outdated compared to yours. Ive heard that updating the firmware isnt as easy on a nokia as on a motorola, which is fairly easy. Whats the best way to update the firmware on my phone?

I got mine flashed by Chippery9 (which explains my "secret" firmware version).

The guys at iUnlock should be able to set you up with the latest FW version.

The 6620 can do this, as others have said. It is actually a 5 way key. you have up, down, left, right, and you can also assign something to pushing it in.

Well how about that... I didnt know that. I had a 6620 for over a year and didnt now about this. I guess I was on the wrong firmware

Pretty cool stuff...

There are quite a few changes between the two. The 6620 has EDGE, almost twice the built in storage (11Mb vs 6Mb), and I believe is the first symbian device to use feature pack 1 (not that special since they are up to feature pack 3 for Sym OS 7), and also has the pop port (supposedly, the 6620 is the first to have that too).

The CPU on the 6600 is clocked at 104Mhz, while the 6620 is the full 150mhz.

I still think the 6620 is one hell of a smartphone. It's got a durable candybar design, loads of memory, EDGE, popport, and a wealth of software available for it.

In fact, if I didn't already give it to my sister, the 6620 would be my "beater" phone.
