usb stick to android phone?

is it possible to connect a USB stick DIRECTLY to a android phone through an adapter?

Connect it? Yes - you just need a male-micro-USB to female-USB-A adaptor. It'll do absolutely nothing though unless you're rooted and have a ROM installed with USB host support compiled into the kernel. If you do, you can mount the USB drive in the same way you would on Linux.
