... well I think they're called colleges as well over there, but you get the idea.

Basically, I'm from the UK and I want to go to university in America, but I don't really know how to go about it. There are a lot of things I am unsure about. A few are:

How much does an average university cost to go to in America, each year?

When do universities there start accepting applications each year?

Is it as easy to get into a university, if you are not from the country (or do you have to have some extra special personal qualities/achievements/grades)?

Are scholarships, bursaries or other financial help easy to obtain?

Finally, does anyone know where would be good universities to study media, journalism or sociology?

I know some of these questions might be hard to answer, but thanks so much for any help. Thanks x

Hi,

I can only tell you from my personal experience...regarding the cost of the university, it usually costs the triple of tuition to students like you who would be considered, "International". I applied to the University of Florida last year on November 1, 2008, and i start college in August. Universities usually start accepting applications in the fall, spring, summer A, and summer B...it just depends when you want to start?
As far as the University of Florida, its really hard to get into, i never, never thought i would end up going to this unversity, but without regards University of Florida is the hardest school to get into here in Florida. But, there's many competitive schools all across the USA, that are really hard to get into. And yes, there is scholarships, and other financial aid. The university of florida has a good journalism class, you might want to look into it..
