Komando Pasukan Khusus or Kopassus is the Indonesian special forces who were exempt from Indonesian law and committed numerous human rights violations. The US cut ties with them in 1998 when a Leahy sponsored bill was passed prohibiting the US from aiding military groups with current and unresolved human rights violations. Only 12 members were charged and convicted of violations but many of those that were convicted now serve as high ranking officers in the Indonesian military.
