US T-Mobile Customer Traveling to Germany

Hi Folks,

I'm a US customer on an BB8100 with the BB Unlimited plan. I travel to Germany frequently and would love to get some information on using my phone while I'm there. Since I've had my phone fewer than 90 days, tmo won't unlock it (although I understand I can pay people to have it unlocked).

Ideally I'd like to switch to a German phone number when I'm there. Will my *locked* US TMO phone take a German TMO pre-paid sim?

Is there any way to get a reasonable price for gprs data there so that I can continue to use my nice BB features?

My dream setup would be to have my phone work as it does here (including BB featues), but with a German number.

Tips, tricks, advice?

Thanks!

my friend, t-mobile is there in Germany as well and i dont think you will need to get your phone unlocked to use a german sim card. however you will have to sign up for two contracts one here in US and one in germany.
however if you still need an unlocked phone there are a few websites where you can get your 8100 unlocked for aroun $50. eg. www.gsmliberty.com , you dont need to send the phone anywhere... all you need to do is download a software and pay the money.

You should be able to use the full features of your BB in Germany. T-mobile's parent company is Deutsche Telecom, located in Germany. I thought it was a new law, that companies had to unlock your phone... I'll dig around...

No you do need to have your phone unlocked because even tho is tmobile Germany and we have the same parent company is still not the same thing and the phones would not work with each other's sim cards. There is something call Blackberry international feature that you can add to your plan. Is 19.99 a mo and it allows you to recieve unlimited e-mails at no extra charge, but only e-mails data still gets charge at $15.00 per megabyte. You can add this feature if you're mainly going to get e-mails and remove it at anytime. Please make sure that if you decide to call us you request to speak to bb dep to have that added. A lot of people in regular customer care would mess you up. also make sure that you have the international dialing and roaming feature because other wise the bb int is useless. You can also add it yourself by logging in to my t-mobile to make sure that you are adding the right thing. Good luck and have a safe trip.
