US Military Business?

Is it legal for a US military officer active or reserve to run a business while he is in the military?

I have heard of this happening in other countries like in Indonesia and in Latin America during the cold war.

But I guess these examples wouldn't apply to the US because we are not a dictatorship.
 
Im not sure for active duty officers, but guard and reserve officers, as well as enlisted soldiers can run businesses. The reserve component is only a part time commitment, and civilian opportunities can be pursued when not on drilling status.
