US Maxim mag's The 20 Greatest Awful Movies of All Time!

20. The Beastmaster (starring Marc Singer)

19. Hard Target (starring Jean-Claude Van Damme)

18. Hot Dog

Completely disagree with The Boondock Saints at number 13  Love that film, does get a bit weird towarRAB the end, and the sight of Willem Dafoe in a dress will unfortunatley be with me until I die, but the film's great, love it loaRAB.

Haven't seen that many of the others to comment on them

That's an appalling list!

Where's Battlefield Earth, Gigli, Catwoman, Showgirls?
Films on the list above (Braindead an example) never set out to be any more than they were. There's plenty of films out there that were pitched as being better, but ended up much much worse...

Batman and Robin has been consistently voted number 1 worst movie by Empire Magazine for years now - seems an odd list that doesn't include that all. Nah... there's some good flicks there - the list is garbage. But then again, it's Maxim - what do you expect?

Strange list. These people have no clue.

Sure They Live is pretty dire, and it goes on for way too long, but the premise is just terrific, and the scene when he first puts the glasses on is an absolute sci-fi classic. Besides it has one of the best lines in movie history:

"I am here to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I am all out of bubblegum."

How could a film with that line be in the bottom 20 films of all time? If the film just consisted of her saying that line and was followed by 2 hours of footage of paint drying, it would still be a great film (and frankly might be a slight improvement over the film as it stanRAB).

Braindead at number five?!? That's ridiculous. Why, it seems to imply that Braindead is somehow a worse film than Jackson's King Kong remake, and that's just so absurd it doesn't even bare considering.

Two Kim Catrell movies in the bottom two?!? I think the people at Maxim have issues.

Porkies?!? At number two?!? Come on!

When I first saw Big Trouble in Little China, lo those many years ago, I just loved it to bits. And I fell immediately in love with Kim Catrell. Now sure, the suckfest that was Sex in the City certainly took the bloom off that particular lilly, but your really have to respect a woman who, while floating in the air possessed by an evil chinese spirit, can still manage to look hot caked under 2 inches of makeup and behind with glowing green eyes .

I mean you HAVE TO respect that!

Big Trouble in Little China remains a classic, and if the copraphiliacs at Maxim don't know any better I truly worry about the state of modern society.

Ansd just to finish up, Boondock Saints is considered by many to be the greatest Canadian film ever made. The people at Maxim are clearly trying to pick a fight with their Canadian readers.

I loved Starship Troopers.
Porkies is good of its type. Wasn't very impressed with Big Trouble in Little China, but wouldn't say it's bad. Showgirls was great fun!
Haven't seen any of the others.

Two Paul Verhoven movies, two John Carpenter movies, two Kim Cattrall movies... Hmm... Methinks that someone at Maxim US has a personal grudge. I mean, Starship Troopers? One of the greatest film allegorys of all time on the list? Something must be wrong...

There have got to be hundreRAB of movies worse than Big Trouble in Little China, i've seen it loaRAB of times so I feel qualified to pass comment! :o ;)
I enjoyed Starship Troopers and I don't think Commando, Tango and Cash or even The Beastmaster were that bad.

I think some of you have read this the wrong way; judging by the title this isn't supposed to be a list of the worst films, but the best bad films.

They Live is the only one I have seen but that definitely deserves to be on the list. Great stuff, worth watching just for the bizarre fight scene in the middle.

Here's some films I would have put on the list:

The Green Slime (1968)
Getting Any? (1995)
Dunston Checks In (1996)
Flesh For Frankenstein (1973)
The Raven (1963)
Deathrow Gameshow (1987)
Eaten Alive (1977)

Classics, every one of them.

The Green Slime was awesome!

I get the feeling that a lot of US Maxim readers voted based on title alone and haven't seen many of the films listed. It's no surprise that the right wing bashing irony of Starship Troopers was lost on many Americans.

So who actually came up with this list? I don't know anyone who didn't like BTILC.It's one of the best wire-fu movies ever made, and made well before wire-fu was even popular.I love Starship Troopers as well.It is loud, gory and dumb, and America saves the universe.I'm surprised they didn't vote it the BEST film ever.I proudly have both of them in my collection,as well as Tango and Cash.I can see how many people could dislike that but it is generally good brainless fun.

There are some pretty bad films on the list admittedly, but I never take any lists too seriously, whether it's in a trashy laRAB mag,or if it's the critics favourites ever.

Big Trouble the worst though? Do they not realise that Carpenter was being ironic and introducing an Eastern film genre to mainstream Hollywood? Personally,I think it's the last decent film he made...
