Please help me i must learn this and my teacher did not teach us! she is getting fired and never gave us a textbook!

In case you missed it, in the 1770s, the United States had a revolution, in which it threw out the British King. Since the King was a tyrant who had absolute authority, the new nation of the United States was afraid of giving any one person (or even group of people) too much power.

Democracy comes from the Greek.
Demos means people, specifically every day, ordinary common people.
Cratos mean to rule.
So it means rule by ordinary people. It is a government where power comes from the people.

1. Yeah, did you forget the American Revolution? Americans distrusted strong central governments because they feared their government would become a monarchy like England, and they wanted to be able to make their own decisions, one of the reasons they formed their own country.
2. A democracy is where the government is run by the people. The people decide who will represent them in government.
