1. what is basic advantage of checks and balances?
2. why might some consider the system by the Constitution to be frustrating and compromising?

part 1 has already been answered

part 2. It is frustrating because it is difficult to both interpret and modify. The writers of the constitution purposely left it vague because they didn't have all of the answers to transform the spirit of the constitution directly into the letter of the constitution. It is compromising because it is the supreme law of the land, thereby making it inflexible and seemingly Draconian in some ways. Example - 2nd Amendment. States that you can own a gun, but states, cities, counties, and other municipalities have (for now) installed their own firearm control measures. In fact, the constitution states that states can make their own laws when the federal government has no laws in place (see the 10th amendment). Does the 10th Amendment supersede the 2nd Amendment? Therein lies the compromise!

You could write books about question #2.

Well I can answer #1...

1. The basic advantage of checks and balances is so that one branch of government does not over power the others and in a way "take over".
