US Army rank question?

There ar 13 different ranks for enlisted soldiers. Can you ever skip a rank when being promoted? For instance,can you go from a Specialist (E-4) to a Sargeant (E-5) without being a Corporal (E-4)? Can a Sargeant (E-5) skip Staff Sargeant (E-6) to become a Sargeant first class (E-7)?
I never claimed anything. I said I'm leaving for BCT in Sept.

There are very few Corporals in the Army these days. In fact, most people do go from Specialist to Sergeant. And though I've never heard of it, I highly doubt an E-5 can jump straight to E-7.
