US Army Officer life? What's it like?

What is life like as an Army Officer (grades O1 to O5)? Are they able to have a relatively normal family life? Do they move around as much as enlisted do? Does prior enlisted National Guard time count towards time in service for AD Officer (So that I would only have to wait the Time in Grade and promo points and board requirements?)?

First- Guard time counts for pay but not for retirement. When I pinned 2LT I had 5 years for pay but 20 years to go for an active duty retirement. But after 20 years I can retire with 50% of 25 years for pay. I hope you got that.

No points or anything for promotion. Everything is subjective and done in DC and you will probably not know what they are looking for to rate you on. But as long as we are at war up to O-5 is damn near automatic.

I would say that lives are fairly normal but you will move and deploy allot. in the long term Officers probably deploy less then enlisted on average because there are fewer deploying slots for officers as they progress in rank.

Good Luck
