I'm going to say that you'll tough it out for the whole duration. I squirmed through it in '78, and I'm not that tough of a guy.

(And, no, this isn't a challenge)

OK here`s the deal,

A while back I downloaded the whole of Lou Reed`s Metal Machine Music (I was curious & there`s no way in hell I was paying for it).

If you know nothing of the album take time out to find out a little about it here...

Anyway , this weekend I will attempt to listen to the whole thing.

All you have to do is guess how long I can tolerate the 64 minute length of the album before going insane & turning it off.

Person who guesses to the nearest minute wins a prize ........ maybe

Haha good luck with that, I've been listening to Wolf Eyes and some other drone lately and that's tough on the mind sometimes as well as the ears as it is.

Anyway... random guess, 16 minutes.

I just finished listening to Metal Machine Music all the way through for the first time so I thought I'd dust off this old thread. I'm curious how many people here have listened to this album in its entirety. I'm glad I did it just to do it but I doubt I'll ever do it again. I actually enjoyed tracks 1 and 2 quite a bit and could see myself listening to them again sometime when I'm in the right mood, they have an interesting feel to them and some interesting textures that I found appealing from a sounRABcape kind of angle. Track 3 though: holy shit. There's a lot of rapidly pulsating high pitched shit on this track is truly headache inducing, I found myself checking how much time was left to the track a lot. Track 4 is more of the same shrieking, ear-piercing sounRAB as the previous track but in about the last three minutes it transforms into this glitchy, distorted rhythm that's actually pretty cool and would make a great sample. Anyway, just my two cents.

I find that the album is spacey in a way and if you can get into the atmosphere it creates its easy to enjoy. If not than it just sounRAB like a bunch of noise.

I've heard that the album is comprised entirely of guitar feedback sped up and slowed down. Boris (a japanese avant-garde/noise band) had done the same thing except they had a droning bass guitar thrown in the mix. I believe the album was "Absolutego" and it consisted of 1 track which was roughly an hour long.

I've heard it all the way through as well. I didn't think it was that bad, but definitely not something I'll listen to again. Not for a while anyway.
