I just upgraded from Vista to 7 x64 and I can't listen to music anymore. In Vista, the drivers had enhancements that allowed me to do a 'Speaker Fill' or copy the music from stereo channels to my 7.1 system.
After the upgrade, that option is gone. So far I've tried the latest drivers from Creative, and the PAX drivers, but neither let me do UpMix anymore. Or I'm not trying the right driver hack.
I also tried the built-in Via HD audio card. However it's one of those that only have 3 jacks. So, when I use the WDM drivers from Microsoft, it lets me use enhancements, but it doesn't know that the card is cable of 5.1.
When I use the drivers from Via, then I can configure it to do 5.1, but then I get no options for any enhancements. For some reason when I use the installer for the Via drivers, it installs another version of drivers that's certified, but they don't work.
Another thing I was thinking is to somehow force iTunes to use ffdshow audio filters and use a matrix upmix there. However, I have no idea how to achieve that in Windows 7.
Any suggestions are helpful and any guides on how to do this will be welcomed.
Thank you.
I know that iTunes will never upmix anything anywhere
