Upgrading soon, which phone?

I have had an LG EnV2 on Verizon's network for about 17 months now, and just recently it started having serious trouble charging, so a new phone is inevitable. Our plan (4 people, family plan) has an available upgrade, and I will be going home from school this coming Easter weekend.

I initially planned on getting a new phone then. My main goal is to have an Android phone, due to the capability and the apps.

I was thinking about the Motorola DROID. My first phone was the Moto RAZR, and the one thing I enjoyed was the sturdiness of it, so I could only expect more of the same.

But now all of this talk about the Nexus One has me thinking about waiting out. I don't want to just settle for the DROID, unless it really is better than the N1.

I don't have any experience with smartphones really, so any insight would be appreciated.

The only other question I have really is regarding the $29.99 data plan. Would that include my texting plan, or would it just be another $30 tacked on? Also, how much does unlimited web browsing cost?

Thanks in advance.

The Nexus One isn't universally better than the Droid; I actually prefer the Droid's screen. It's easier to read outdoors and better-balanced for color. You'd also appreciate the better camera quality.

And while Motorola isn't always perfect, the Droid is very solid -- you could almost use it as a weapon. :) I can't vouch for the Nexus One's quality, but Motorola's handset feels like a piece of heavy machinery.

According to Verizon, you'll need to pick a Talk & Text family voice plan and then tack on data for the smartphone. The good news: the Talk & Text covers unlimited messaging for all phones, so if you weren't using messaging on other devices already, you could after the plan switch (if you have to switch).

The Nexus One has a 60% faster CPU and 60% faster GPU than the Droid, as well as twice the RAM. The GPU doesn't really mean much for Android, but the CPU and RAM could make a lot of difference depending on what you'll be doing.

I ended up choosing the Milestone because the hardware keyboard is always useful to have, and I like how it looks/feels much more. The Nexus One just doesn't look distinctive or geeky enough.
