I have an old 3100 receiver I would like to use for a second tv set. I unplug it when I upgraded to HDTV more than a year ago. When I reconnected my old 3100, it was not able to get the signal. I assumed that this is due to the fact that the firmware is not updated. How can I upgraded it if I don't have the connexion to the satellite ?

Can this situation be due to another cause, exemple: the antenna is now upgraded to HD whereas my receiver is not HD?

Thank you !

Check your signal strength on satellite 91, because 82 only comes on a few transponders, other than that I can't help and others would probably need to know what connections you are using.

Jic,

Assuming you have sent a feed from the switch at your dish to the room where the receiver is, you should have a signal to the 3100.

Call 1-888-skydish and tell them what you've done. They will go through the usual script of questions and then will finally send a "hit" that should upgrade the software and bring all your channels back. I just did this with my old 3100 on Saturday.

Your 3100 will work just fine as long as you provide a feed for the 91 satellite.

You do not need to, and there is no (easy) way to, update the firmware manually. As long as the 91 satellite can be locked on, then your receiver will automatically update the firmware. Check out this thread Info: How Bell TV receiver's get new firmware

Can you clarify "cannot get the signal"?

If you mean you cannot get the satellite to lock (menu-6-1-1) then you likely have a wiring issue.

If you can't get your subscription channels, then ensure the firmware is up to date following the above link/info, then call as suggested by congo.

You will need a new (N3) Smart Card if you didn't get one from Bell already.

In order to update your firmware for the 3100...make sure that once you have connected a working satellite signal...that you turn the 3100 OFF.

Your receiver will blink green and once done will stop flashing...this may take 15-30 minutes...be patient.
