upgrade from 3.0?

as the title says really sorry i have been out the game for monts due to a broken iphone just want to know if this is possible and can somebody give me a step by step instructions on what software/files i need to download.

anybody out there have the answer?
Just to confirm i am running a jailbroken iphone 3G with OS 3.0 can I upgrade beyond this point without losing my jaiolbroken abilites?
