Updating firmware?

What are the pros and cons of updating the firmware on my Sony Ericsson S710a?
 
PROs:
improved performance
remove cingular branding and customizations.
remove locks on wap profiles
option to change/disable camera shutter noise
option to change sms midi tones
add ability to use mp3's as ringtones

CONs:
have to buy a cable and a credit: $20 or send phone away.

is there anyway i can get back my cingular themes? i cant transfer them to my computer before i upgrade firmware
 
you should be able to find the themes online somewhere to replace them after you flash your phone.
 
Of course that upgrading you'll have some new stuff and some bugs fixed...
I don't now any cons of upgrading the phone...

I will upgrade my T610 on a shop that I found here in my city which does the upgrading with the Twister Box...
I already download the RC60005 US2 (latest firmware with my language support), the modem flash and the original GDFS files (to remove the pre-defined items of my operator!)

one con that I didn't realize when i posted last is that the IM client that's built into the Cingular branded firmware is not in the unbranded firmware. so you would loose that. But it's easily replaced by java IM clients some of which use gprs instead of using sms to send the IM's...which saves you money on sms charges.
