The battery is brand new yet the voltmeter needle continues to drop. The car hasn't died or needed to be given a jump yet. I also had the alternator checked at auto zone and it came out ok. What could be the problem? I am going to go to a shop this weekend and don't want my wallet to bleed to death. Thanks in advance for any help. Please no douche bag answers. I appreciate any serious suggestions.

I don't know about that particular vehicle but I'm old school and I would check the voltage regulator. Also with the battery being in the trunk I'd check the cables and look for a short. Disconnect your battery cables and check continuity between each cable and ground.

I had a problem like that with a 78 VW Rabbit. The dealership replaced the alternator but I latter had the same problem. I latter found out that the cable assembly under the dash had been routed or pulled out of the connector just enough to cause the problem . My advice is to check the cable under the dash before spending any money on repairs.

Normal if is continuing to drop to 0. Most new batteries need at least a small charge - some due to sitting on the shelf for a few weeks/months. It may have needed a charge when it was installed and now it is topping out.

Check it with a digital multi-tester.

Engine off - full charge is 12.66v.

Engine running and ALL accessories ON - 13.8 to 14.5V
