For those of you i've been discussing my ordeal with i thought i'd just put a general update on here. So i went to GI dr and he said i've stabilized at 115 :) i even gained a pound. But acid continues every day so he is sending me to an ent next week, i am TERRIFIED of what this guy is going to find after so many months of damage. My celiacs came back normal, my h. pylorei...normal...still haven't done the hida. He said my gerd is an aggressive case and he hasn't seen many that get the pain in the ear, red spot in eye, etc when acid flares up:( I feel like a medical anamoly...you guys make me a feel a bit of not so alone although i'm so sorry you are suffering too. But i've spoken to others on here whom get these symptoms i do.

So, my lymph nodes are constantly off/on swollen anymore and throat is always sore but i can eat on my restricted diet. I sooo hope the dr next week doesn't find a hole eaten through my throat. The GI dr told me he thinks i will make it through these awful non stop episodes, its just taking awhile, understatement. So, my acupuncturist gave me herbs to help corabat the low grade infection in my throat since the last antibiotics tore my stomach up and i'm waiting on another dr and praying that my not that long ago healthy throat can truly heal one day. I just bought some slippery elm today too and told the dr that i will try nexium soon, he has partially convinced me i won't have a reaction like i did to protonix to nexium.

Terrified is a very strong, stress-filled word and I truly hope you're not feeling terrified, marigoldgirl. I can share my experience that I was CERTAIN the GI doctor was going to find lots of damage during my endoscopy and he found nothing but some irritation. I was almost shocked because my chest HURT and had hurt for months. SO - instead of imagining the worst (which you're smart enough to know raises your stress level and compromises your immune system), think positive. It's quite possible that, although you're feeling awful right now, the ENT isn't going to find anything awful. I was SO COMFORTED by my visit to the ENT and SO RELIEVED to have him scope in there. Yes, he found lots of upper esophagus damage but no lesions, nothing terrible, nothing that couldn't or wouldn't heal given the chance to do so. And now, three months later, I'm feeling lightyears better and so grateful to have seen that ENT. And I'm way older than you, girl - your body is young and probably has twice the healing capacity of mine! Your immune system is a beautiful thing, but you have to take care of it, and that includes trying to keep your stress level under control. I know it's easy to say when I'm feeling better and you're not (yet), but this won't last forever. Be thankful for doctors and current technology and even the scoping you're probably about to have. It'll give you some much-needed answers and chances are the news will NOT be terrible. Think of it as a step in the direction of recovery.

:) thanks, i've already had an endoscopy this year, so i'm not sure if this dr is going to want to do another scope....but yes, its hard to see when the weight of bricks of pain and discomfort keep pushing on you month after month without a break....terrified, i am as its not a pretty picture when i look in there. I will try to listen to the advice of not getting overly stressed about it, i have been trying lots of distraction from the pain and will try to apply that to the situation. thanks again.

The ENT and GI docs look at different things and scope differently, too. It's possible you'll have a laryngoscopy that goes in thru your nasal passage and down your throat. The ENT may look at things your GI doc could not see (and wasn't all that interested in) during the endoscopy. If you do have a laryngoscopy, this is NOTHING to be terrified of. I found it only MILDLY uncomfortable but very interesting. I'd do it again in a heartbeat. If you're very tense, it's liable to be more uncomfortable, so try your very best to go in there relaxed about it. It's nothing to fear. If you have any more questions, I'll try to answer them.

thank you. Do they usually do the scope 1st visit? or schedule one later? Just getting an idea what my first visit is going to be like.

I don't know how your ENT will do things, but mine just got right down to business and scoped my throat on my first visit. There is, after all, very little they can actually see without scoping. This scoping procedure is a simple office procedure. He sprayed a bit of nurabing medicine into my nasal passage (which also dilates), had me sit for 5-10 minutes comfortably reading a magazine, and then he popped back in and fed the scope up thru my nose and down my throat. How far down the throat he can see will probably depend on how well you tolerate it - it is, as I said earlier, more weird feeling than it was anything else. At one point he tells you to swallow and - bloop - you realize you just swallowed the probe. I actually thought that was sort of cool. My ENT was so nonchalant about the whole thing that I would've felt downright silly whining about it! Some people can actually tolerate this so well that the ENT scopes all the way into the stomach with nothing other than this light nasal nurabing spray. I think I could've done it! But my ENT went about as far as my collarbone and elected to let the GI doc look at the rest (via endoscopy). It's like having a pap smear - just tell yourself it's just a few minutes of discomfort but will be over before you know it.
