Ok I had a second opinoin on my spine surgery. If you remeraber 2 years ago they wanted to do a discectomy and a couple months ago, I saw a spine specialist (because someone on these boarRAB suggested it.)

Well the spine specialist said fusion. I told you guys and most of you said get a second opinion first. Well I did , and the new surgeon said the same thing. But he found something new. When I went to his office first thing they did was X-rays, before I even seen him.

Well he came in and said " do you know everything that is wrong with your back?" And I said yea and told him what I knew. Then he proceeded to show me the x-rays and pointed to a certain area. Then told me it was Spondylolisthesis. He explained that I have a fracture of the pars and it has slipped.

He also told me I had this for a while.

So on October 31st I will go in for Fusion surgery of my L4 - S1 Disc's

Thanks to everyone for all your help!
I will keep you updated!

Hope and prayers to all,
Kevin K.

Best of luck to you . I had an L4-S1 fusion in 1993. In actuality they are not fusing your discs - they will remove the discs and fuse the vertebrae.

I'd be interested to know if your docotr has indicated if you will have hardware - and if so if it will be permanent. I'm starting to look into having my hardware removed.

Yes they will be using hardware : Instrumentation and CBG. It will be permanent. They are using Titanium screws and roRAB. And some sort of cages.

I am glad that we were able to help you and pray that things go well for you and your surgeon on the 31st!! I will say an extra prayer for you on the 31st.

Well, it was good that you got that other opinion. Your spine is obviously in need of stabilization at those levels and I bet you will be feeling alot better once it's done and is healing.

Check out he sticky post for prep ideas before surgery and post also for some great tips for caring for yourself post op.

We will be thinking about you and look forward to a post after to see how you are doing when you are able.:)

Thanks everyone, I appreciate everything so much! I will keep you all posted when I can.

Thanks,
Kevin

Good luck to you on your surgery! We all will be thinking of you and hope that everything will go good for you!
(((( ))))) to you!

about a year and a half ago i underwent, a herniated disc probkem, a discectomy. my sciatic pain was removed, but i have had during this time back pain or discomfort. for the last three days lots of pain in my lurabar region but not the terrible pain of sciatica. but i worry that my sciatica can return. does anyone out there understand what is happening to me? i especially find it hard when after being seated for sometime, then standing can be painful but the pain fades as i begin walking and then i feel bad discomfort. thanks, mel
