Update on my boyfriend's condition

I seriously need some help and advice for my boyfriend. Since his hardware removal surgery in Sept 07, the balls of his feet and toes have become significantly nurab and they hurt at times. His ankles hurt as well. He noticed the nurabness prior to the last surgery and told the doctors while in the the hospital but they didn't seem so concerned at the time. He didn't have this nurabness and pain before his back surgeries. He isn't diabetic. He went for an EMG which the neurologist said the nurabness was due to a pinched nerve in his back and not neuropathy. He went for an MRI with contrast and there were no signs of a pinched nerve so now we have no idea what is causing the nurabness. So now what does he do? He is at his wits end. He can't get a straight answer from any one doctor. There is no treatment lined up. No more testing lined up yet. I'm waiting to hear back from his surgeon after he speaks to the pm doctor. We have absolutely no idea where to turn for help at this point. My bf can't bear living this way. He is so depressed. The pain meRAB don't help anymore and he feels like everyone is closing the door on him. He can't take any of the meRAB that are given for nerve pain because they cause pain in his eyes.

Lynne, I'm sorry he's still suffering so much. I had hardware removed last Septeraber, too, and have had burning in my feet since then that I didn't have before that. It seems pretty clear that there's nerve irritation and it takes a long time to calm down. But mine doesn't seem nearly as bad as your boyfriend's. It sounRAB like his is escalating. I have days when it's worse than others, but it's not unbearable.

I wonder if they would be willing to repeat either the EMG or the MRI, maybe at an MRI site where they can do it in different positions. I wonder if he had it lying down, the nerve just didn't show up as pinched, but if he was sitting or standing, it would. All of us spineys know that a change in position can change everything!

I hope the surgeon looks at the conflicting reports and decides to get to the bottom of it. I wish you both the best as you work through it all. I know it's tough for both of you.

I had my second surgery 6 weeks ago. I have so much neurological pain and symptoms of nerve pain - a lot more than I had before my second surgery. I had neuropathy pain prior second surgery but never as much as I have now. I had to go back to Neurontin and Neurologist as well as PM will be watching my progress.
I have to report to Neurologist every 10 days about how am I doing and based on it they will increase the dose if needed.
I am so sorry he still has problems. As you know my hardware was removed too (I got more fusion though in a higher levels) and I thought i will be flying right the way... did not happen so far.:)

I wish to be able to help more...
