Update on consultation for lumbar E.S.I.!

Good morning, everyone...Again, I apologize for being scarce the past couple of days. I have been in more than usual pain, due to "newfound" cervical spine complications. I went to the consultation for the injection, yesterday and go tomorrow at 2:30pm for the actual injection. The doctor has prescribed me a Valium to take 30 minutes prior to the injection. After the injection, I will stay in recovery for at least 30 minutes before being released. I also have to take a driver with me (my husband). I am very excited about the injection and am keeping a positive attitude about the "benefits" of pain relief! I do realize the failure rate of the injection but am staying hopeful. At this point, I am almost desperate! How is everyone feeling today? I will be sure to keep everyone updated about my condition!
 
Good for you for keeping a positive attitude. I was just reading a book that talks about the mind-back connection and the connection between stress and pain.

I have two frienRAB that have had wonderful results with ESIs. One had them almost 5 years ago, and she is doing well still.

I hope you will have the same success!! :cool:
 
I just want to wish you luck with your injection tomorrow! I just had my last round yesterday. After my injections, they put me in a recliner chair, take my blood pressure again and let me sit for a bit. Usually 15-20 minutes. They also give us coffee and crackers. I was starving by then so I sucked it all up, lol. Yesterday I was more woozy afterwarRAB than I usually am, but it wore off pretty quickly. That is why they want someone to drive home. I see you will be getting valium , are they giving you conscious sedation also?

Hopefully you won't feel anything, but it is possible. For some reason my last 2 injections I felt a litte pain when the needles went in. Today im a bit sore at the injection site (which is in my rear, ugh) so I cant sit for too long. That usually only lasts 2 days, though.

Did the doc tell you to try one injection first to see how it goes? Or did the doc already discuss having more?
 
Thank you all for the positive encouragement...The doctor wants to first see how this injection works for me, before discussing further injections. I have an appointment again with him on the 25th of February to discuss how well it worked for me and what should be done next. I did not hear the nurse mention anything about a "conscious" sedation(?)...I hope I typed that right. Bay, could you please tell me more about that type of sedation? Talking with you all really calms my nerves about tomorrow's procedure. I took the day off from college and stayed home with my kiRAB, who have been suffering with the flu for the past week! I have been doubling up on my Vitamin C and other immune "boosters", since then. I hope everyone is enjoying a "pain free" day!
 
MM, that sounRAB like a good book about "mind over back." I do believe in keeping a positive attitude and wanted to share something with you all. I had a tubal ligation after I had my second child, a son, six and a half years ago. I have at times regretted that decision, but have since "come to terms" with it, since I have DDD causing problems with my spine. My husband came up with the idea of ordering me a "reborn" baby doll on-line to help cope with my current condition and my past feelings of wanting another child. I have to admit, it helps tremendously. Whenever I first wake up, I put on the "reborn" baby's clothing for the day, which helps give all of my medications time to "kick in", before carrying on with daily duties. Whenever I am having severe pain, I lay down in bed and brush her "life-like" red hair (my husband is a red head). It reminRAB me of having a pet, which I have heard helps relieve stress!
 
It's called concious sedation or twilight sedation. It's an anesthesia thru an IV but you are not put totally out, you are still conscious. You can talk and see but usually you dont feel anything and then don't remeraber getting the shot or getting off the table. Its' really weird LOL .

Also, I hope your doc is using guided live x-ray (fluoroscopy) when he does the injection...did they mention anything about that? This way they can see exactly where they are putting the needle....
