Untangling ps2 controllers?

my ps2 controller wires are insanely tangled its impossible to untangle them any ides?
 
grab one cord at a time. get the end of the cord and slide it and untangle it from every knot. although this would take some time to do, you need patience to untangle them.

so how in the world did they get tangled up "badly"?
