Unsure about keeping my Nexus One..

The Wifi issues could very well be your Router, or the channels your on. Try a few different channels. And another router if you have one.

I have the DIR-655 and I can connect within seconds and it NEVER looses it, Ever. I can go in front yard, or out back and have coffee on the patio and have 1-2 bars and very fast network. Even sitting in my truck in driveway I have connection. It shuts down temporarily on sleep, but when I wake the phone I have it back within 2-3 seconds always. so idk there.

T-mo my reception is fine, I get 3G almost everywhere but the back at work, and the freezers at work. lol

Here's my new course of action:

Return the N1 and cancel AT&T for my wife and I (a $90 ETF is hardly a deterrant considering our monthly bill was well above that)
I'll jump on Sprint and get the EVO at some point hopefully before my daughter's first birthday.
I'll put my wife on Virgin Mobile where she can get unlimited web, email and text plus 300 anytime minutes for $25 a month.
With this, monthly phone bill will be about $100. Also, if it turns out Sprint and/or the EVO suck, I can return it within 30 day and get no penalty. I'll try them out before I try out Verizon.

If it helps ya out any, my wife and I on Tmo have a family plan, 750 minutes, unlimited text and data -- and pay $110 a month. Also with the "4G", don't expect mind numbing speeds.

The only way I would ever use a carrier besides TMobile is:
If the coverage in my area was extremely poorIf I had a corporate discount for Verizon
Although TMobile has awesome rate plans, with a 20% Verizon discount (which are offered through many employers) I can get similar rates and MUCH better coverage. [let's be honest here]

I still love TMobile though!

Tmo is great from the customer service and cost side of things. They typically lack the "best" phones and largest coverage, but the price for me to go to Vzw comes out to about $50 more a month, and for AT&T it's $40 more a month.

Also from here on out, after being constantly raped by Vzw for "moving contacts" and waiting in long lines to change phones, I refuse to go to another CDMA-based carrier. I went from Vzw to Tmo in an attempt to escape the crap I had to put up with at Vzw. So, Sprint and Vzw are both out if I wanted to change carriers. My choices left: AT&T and Tmo. Until the coverage of Tmo fails where I live, I'll be on them for as long as I can.

It's odd, but GSM is that important to me.

As of now I can expect nothing, because 4G isn't available here. At this point the 4G is almost an afterthought, and even though I have to pay $10 extra regardless, it's still cheaper monthly for me than if I was with AT&T or Verizon.

Ok I'm not sure what you have with AT&T in my case 2 lines, unlimited data, international calls and 1400 mins. roll over $120.00 a month with a Nexus One Sim Unlock,Great Phone signal and very fast Internet and form time some stupid add from AT&T via SMS.

I totally agree. I was distraught when I found that I would need to switch to Verizon in the foreseeable future. I am a huge GSM fan and do not like CDMA (much for the same reasons as you).

The freedom of GSM is awesome... and you just do not seem to get that with CDMA. At least with Android you do not have to worry about "transferring contacts" as they are all stored on Google's servers and synced with your account.

If TMobile expanded their coverage slightly then I would never leave!
