Unprecedented: Viz really does (not) Cancel Zatch Bell manga

DVRAB rot on the shelves just like unsold produce, luckily they don't smell or else the foul stench that would come off those things would be a public health risk. At this point only the store itself is making money off it.

Maybe this is just another "Candy Candy" case, because of the author`s dispute with Shogakukan the license is revoked until both parts are fine with it.
Maybe some other company will buy the license??

Well that freaking sucks. I guess I really am going to boycott everything Viz from now on, as I am not going to take the chance of starting a series, get to Vol 40, and then they decide to say, "This doesn't sell well, so we are going to can it."

That is just as bad as Geneon/ADV not giving us the final season to Sailor Moon. Hey, you got to see 166 episodes, so we aren't going to give you the remaining 34.

A dispute between the original author and Shogakukan would actually be a very logical explanation if the series is indeed cancelled.

Does the author not like how something of the series is done in the US? I mean that makes no sense, how would that effect the US version when nothing has happened to the Jp version.

This sounRAB more like a cop out to me, just like how Clamp continuously claims they are not allowed to finish X.

There was a dispute between the original author and Shogakukan, he sued the company because he was missing his original artwork, and now he's working with Kodansha. Disputes in Japan can effect international release, as someone already mentioned with "Candy Candy".

Ah, yes, I had forgotten about that.

Without the approval of the original manga-ka, the work can't be sold overseas. The last volume that was released was probably the last one that had been approved prior to the legal trouble between the author and shogakukan, so now that they're splittsville, Viz is basically SOL.

In fact, this probably goes for worldwide (outside of Japan) rights to the series, plus the license won't be renewed for the existing volumes.

It's sort of sad, but chances are very good that Zatch Bell is dead, permanently, when it comes to non-Japanese publication, because shogakukan owns the rights to the books, but the author would have to work with them to allow overseas sales, and that doesn't seem to be in the carRAB.

There, mystery solved. Unfortunately this isn't really Viz's or anyone's fault, stuff happens, move on.

If this is indeed the case, Viz owes a huge apology to those who purchased every volume of the series, and maybe offer them a rebate offer or something. I mean 25 volumes at $8 a piece is $200, and if people aren't going to get to finish the series, Viz owes big time.

Virgin Megastores in the US are all gone.

I know I picked up a couple of volumes at MSRP $9.99, probably at the just-shuttered anime store Westside Pavilion. So I know it was more than $200 which makes this just another suckfest like I had with Cromartie getting cancelled.

Wait...WHAT?

Then what's with all the volumes dissapearing from all the online bookstore searches? What's up with "Final volume" on their site?

Maybe it was a mistake on the bookstore's part or fans did complain enough for Viz to change their minRAB, even though I'm not sure how likely that would be actually. Besides, Right Stuf did have a date for the next volume of the manga, so I thought that was a sign that the manga series might not be canceled and it apparently was.
