Unprecedented: Viz really does (not) Cancel Zatch Bell manga

Damn, why cancel it in the middle of a major arc! That's so stupid! I've been buying all the volumes from volume 18 and they go and do this..

I think there are some series that are doing worse than Gash/Zatch Bell and they still run them. I actually thought the sales were moderate and its their fault that they ruined the series...It's all about naruto and bleach...

Not quite, when print is becoming a dying medium. CN is trying to squeeze out Viz, so Viz no longer benefits from having a TV station that promotes its products, so they are going through a bit of a down swing and so they will cut out things to save money.

Well, RightStuf did have volume 26 available for pre-order and it said it would be released on August 11, 2009, which makes a lot more sense than 2030 to me. Of course, I would also like to hear something official from Viz regarding this issue as well just to be certain of what they're going to do with the manga. I know it probably isn't one of their best sellers, but they are five volumes away from the ending, even though I thought that they were already done with the manga for some reason.

They already axed Shojo Beat, can't they wait a while before axing something else?

(BTW, anyone know if Hot Gimmick's omnis are still on? The release date of 2 has come and gone and I didn't get mine!)

why are you guys over reacting vol 26 is coming in augest and we have not heard a confirmation from viz. So lets calm down and wait. viz.http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2009-06-19/new-york-times-manga-best-seller-list-june-7-13

I'd say there's enough doubt that I added a question mark to the thread title. With Anime Expo coming up very soon, this will surely be cleared up one way or the other.

Isn't Viz trying to market some of the titles they got to Hollywood, because they want some of the money Marvel is earning off its movies, maybe Viz is trying to change its business model.

Any movie deals would be delt with between the original companies and the film studio, Viz would have very little to do with it.

Besides, even if they do have some control over it, Naruto would be the only series they'd pitch to a film studio.

Yes.. Remeraber that Viz is owned by Shogakukan, so they are, in effect, the "original company". Viz Media might have little to do with it, but all that means is that the "manga division" wouldn't have much to do with it. The people making the decisions about whether to cancel a series or not I'm sure are quite high up in the food chain, so large scale business model shifts would definitely have an effect on those sorts of decisions.

Not that anyone knows the real reason why, of course.

That would explain a lot. Since the mangaka of Gash Bell had sued shogakukan because of some lost artwork, shogakukan did not want anything to do with him and I think the series (even though it was hugely popular in Japan) anymore...maybe they are partly responsible? I don't know

They do get money from the OP DVD's since FUNi advertises them in Shonen Jump. They also get money from the hard to find but not impossible 4KiRAB One Piece DVD's that still get occasionally sold.

Not...quite. I believe that they aren't pressing their edited 4KiRAB DVRAB anymore and therefore have already gotten all the money they can from the retailers who bought and sold them...

...and as it is, those DVRAB will only be available via secondhand means (used book/video stores and the like) and not at a store like Best Buy or Wal-Mart.
