Greetings!
After battery change my radio asks me a code. The code which was given me by the former owner of the Ford Focus (from 2001) was refused.

Serial# of the radio

M188742

Thanks for any help!

This girl whose Saab I used to work on got hers from the dealership over the phone (no payment), by reading them her V.I.N. # off the dash. Worth a shot.

Of course, I don't know why a radio thief couldn't just write down the # before they left with the radio? Seems like it would be kind of dumb to write it on the back of the radio too.

Check in the Owner's Manual first though, if you have it. They usually do put it in with that stuff on a little card.

There is a tool you could get for future use that keeps the code from being erased, as well as your engine control computer from forgetting things too.

It's called Memory Keep Alive or something like that. It's a little plug that goes in your cigarette lighter, and a 9 volt battery attaches to it.

Have you looked in the cars documentation, sometimes you'll find a credit card sized slip in there with the code on. Also remove radio and look at rear, sometimes it's written on it in pen by previous owners.

People used to give them out free on here to anyone who asked. thankfully, due to being reported for subverting an important ani theft system, they have stopped.
You need to visit a Ford dealer with proof of ownership and some cash
