Update: I just received a call from the executive offices of VZW due to my BBB complaint. They are going to try and rectify this issue. I was informed that this is a known glitch in the back office area.

I also went into great detail on the different price points concerning data charged to PDA/Smartphone’s vs. dumb phones.

I explained that I feel that data is data and that I/we should not be charged for the way a phone displays/handles the downloaded data (as PDA/Smartphone’s & BB’s are). I paid a higher price for my Smartphone so therefore I feel that I have already paid for the capabilities of my phone.

I was informed that this is something that "they" had never dealt with or had customers complain about and will be putting it up to the VP’s. Might be nothing but hopefully this will do some good & maybe we all will get one price for data no matter what phone I/we have from VZW.

Update: I am going to be credited all the Data charges, along with credits for the year long hassle, also will be getting 2 Dares to replace the 2 smartphones.

Hopefully---this worked out how you hoped.

Sounds like a good deal to me. Verizon Wireless is generally understanding when it comes to things like this.

Yes they are when you get to the correct department. I have to say they were not for the entire year I was dealing with this, but it all worked out and I am happy now.

Still unsure if i will renew with them when my contract is up.

That has been my exp up until this issue.

But for months I was told one story (I am not being charged for data 4 a pic). And i was being told I was doing something else. (So in their eyes I was a lying)

Then they changed the story to all smartphones are charged data when sending a pic.

This was all from the basic CSR, Supervisors and Tech's.

To me it feels like they were seeing free money. Hell they are a company out to make money, why fix it if they can just tell me a story that justifies the charge.

Think of how much a month just one extra dollar ='s on the smartphone users out there. That's a hell of allot of money per month. Now think how much 29.99 ='s a month for all the new Smart phone users. They are robbing the techy type customer in my mind. Let alone how they charge you for the capabilities of your phone per month.

They told me because my phone can do more with the data it downloads that I should pay more for the data. Just think how that sounds.

Does the cable company charge you by the size of your TV's?? No.

Does your ISP charge you based on performance or software that is on your PC?? No.

Then why does/can a cell company???

So now that I am getting two non smartphones, I can now change my plan the the connect plan and send email and surf the web. All for only $20 more a month.

I will save $40 a month. Why?? Only because the Dare does not have the same capability of my smartphone. Do they not download the same data when they download a song, go to the same web page, download a video??

Ask yourself does it sound right??

Yes I know all that & I have no problem with high fees. If i did i would not have a cell phone. The issue I have is them charging different prices for the same thing based on a phone.

Data charges should be one price and based on the plan you have, not based on the type of phone you have attached to that plan.

I can argue that...:smart:.

The PDA style phones are much more advanced with the way they use data. Even the Dare, which uses an HTML browser is less advanced than a PDA. They need to charge you accordingly.

I do disagree with the fact they force you to have the data plan. That wasn't Verizon's idea either, call the FCC on that one.

It is wrong to charge for the way the phone uses the data. I paid for the features of the phone by paying the higher price for that phone.

Does a gas company charge you for the way you use the gas or just the amount you use??

I said this before, if utility companies, cable, gas stations were doing this same practice everyone would be up in arms and be filing law suit after law suit.

The FCC mandated the need for a data plan on all smartphones???
