University or Firefighter's College or Both?

Hi Hello, I am currently in a predicament. I am finished my final year of high school and I dont really know what to do. I've contemplated on it for a while and I've decided that I want to be a firefighter (ultimately). But my parents want me to go to university. It didnt really matter to me so I thought about doing uni first with a course that could supplement my firefighting application and beef it up when I apply to become a firefighter But of course that takes time (approx 4-5 years of uni plus 2 years of college for FF) and by the time that'll be over I am going to be about 25 years old. Is that too old to start becoming a firefighter? I am currently 18 years old.

However, thats only half the problem, Since as long as I can remember I've never really taken school seriously and therefore learned the hard way where it reflected in my marks. Now i am at the end of my high school career, I am beginning to feel the major repercussions to the choices I made in the past limiting the options available to me in the future. I could try to get into uni but it will be very hard, VERY hard, however not impossible. Just wondering if the time is worth it? since i only want to go to uni for the experience and as a supplement.

And in addition, if there are any firefighters here, would you kindly help me out by telling me if life as a FF will be hard being who I am?

-I am of Oriental ethnicity
-18 years of age (Student counselor said FF programs dont usually take anyone straight out of high school, true?)
-Medium body build (weight lifting since I was 15, stopped the past year and did a lot of cardio and lost 30 pounds)
-about 177-179 cm in height (not exact since I only measured at the lego poster in front of Toys R Us where you stand next to a stack of lego and each lego was 1 cm and I measured about 180 lego bricks with shoes on)
-Took all university courses and 3 college prep courses in high school (college courses got me an average of 90%, Uni....<75% or less)
-Dont smoke, stopped burning MJ (never done it a lot in the first place), and no drugs
-And I want to be a FF in Ontario, Canada

So basically that is my predicament, I know what I would like to do, but dont know due to my lack of experience and knowledge, all advice is appreciated, I am also worried about my height since being a FF does require a high level of fitness and the only FF i have seen are giants about 6" tall. As you can tell, I am quite serious about this problem so please answer seriously. All advice is appreciated >=)

thanks for your time

-Martin
