I have been reading here about the N73 FW update,, BUT i have a few questions and concerns.. i know a lot of you are from other countries, so i wonder ,,, has anyone from the US updated their N73's??
is it worth doing,, it seems like a lot of you are saying it takes forever,, and such..
bottom line,, if someone is from the US and has updated their N73,, can you please post a step by step procedure for doing so?? i'd really appreciate it!!

yes, i understand "another thread" but as you can see i am targeting my fellow Americans!!, not canadians or europeans.. i want to see if 'we" need to do this or am having problems downloading!! no offense!!

it's ok, but the thing is it doesnt matter if u are asian, european, american or canadian...we dl the same thing, follow the same procedure and use the same software to update our n73s. Whether you get the update or not is another thing thou...

In US... had no problem getting the download or doing the upgrade (have done it 3 times). The download took about 8 minutes and the pushing of that update to the phone took about 10 minutes.

You need to know what region your phone is set to and if you want to change that. There wasn't a ton of new features (as you saw in the other firmware posts) but I performed it to change mine from APAC (Asia Pacific) region to Europe (turn off the shutter sounds, first name/last name sorting fixed, etc).

I was under the impression that the cause of some of the phone brickings was because some people in the US with imported phones were using the software? I don't know how that makes sense at all, but I do remember hearing it.

That being said, I've successfully updated my firmware using the software in Chicago with no problem.

Well I wanna experience the N93.. Not enough funds on me. So that's what made me sell the N73.

Thanks to your review..

Read it and looked at the Hi-res pictures you provided..

I think that what made my choice!

Oh my god!! That too!!

That features right there just blew me out!

N93 SIMPLY AWESOME!!!

Let me call my contact right now and have one reserve for me!

Region setting: There is a code on your phone (under the battery, above the FCC number) that indicates the "localized" version of the phone. This translates to the actual region (APAC, EURO-1, etc.) for the language pack/settings on the handset. If your code is not among those for which Nokia has released a firmware update (mine falls into this category), NSU will merely state that there is no upgrade available.

There is an application available that can change the code on the phone. If the code is changed to a code for which a firmware upgrade is available from Nokia (through NSU), it will be downloaded and your phone will be updated.

Relevant to the first question as to whether or not it is worth it. I can give an unqualified YES. I had this annoying "ping" (other called it "pop") during calls. Quite annoying. After the update, this is gone. Personally I have had only one issue (Bluetooth related) after the upgrade. If I call someone while my headset is active, I won't hear them. It seems to only do this if I haven't first received a call with the headset active. For me, this annoyance is still worth the upgrade.

when i check the current firmware on my n73, it says nokia (03) i heard the 03 is the region code? is this correct?
