I have had 2 madagascan rainbow fish in my tank for about 6months - 1 year,

Yesterday, one of the fish suddenly bent, and turned upside down, and went to the bottom of the tank. 30 minutes later it was dead.

Today, the other fish has done exactly the same.

I have also noticed that my blue rainbow fish has pop eye, and another fish seems to have a white fin.

I recently went on holiday, and left them with a novice (who said he knew how to look after fish) I have a feeling that the fish were overfed, but having tested the water, cannot see that the ammonia or nitrite are abnormal.

What disease do you think the madagascan rainbow fish had, and are the other fish likely to go the same way.

Also what would you suggest I treat the tank with, to try and cure them all. I am currently using melafix, and have turned the temperature above 30 degrees, as think there may also be signs of white spot!!

HELP!

I have to agree with Dave, melafix is a waste of time. If you arent sure what is wrong with the fish buy a disease treatment that covers both fungal and bacterial infections. The Interpet ones and the King British ones are generally pretty good. For white spot I find King British WS3 white spot terminiator is the best one. Avoid sudden temperature changes because it can affect the fishes' immune system.

Most likely a swimbladder problem - could well be due to overfeeding.

Melafix is rubbish - don't waste your time.

Buy a bottle of Esha 2000 - it's expensive, but covers a wide variety of ills.... I can't speak highly enough of it.

(also, it's fine for use with crustaceans and arthropods).

In the short-term - a 50% water change wouldn't hurt.
