Unfortunately, I joined the club...broken fairing bracket

Not to beat this to death, I have had some dealers say they have never heard of this problem and I also had a dealer while on a road trip say " it just comes with the territory" I have had to change the brackets on my Ultra's every year. Not only the gold ones for the speakers, but the large black ones on the forks. I have found the lic. brackets broke, as well as the trunk mt. cracked in half. Not only those brackets but the exhaust bracket that mts on the starter location. That broke off within a few months. Just wish there some good after market ones out there. It would be nice that the dealers would acknowledge that they break instead of acting like they have never heard of it before.

I see no reason to replace the larger vertical brackets. I didn't. Thanks to this site i went to Home Depot with a shopping list and bought the 2 inch corner brackets and some 10-32 nuts and bolts. Mine were broken and I repaired with this method. I did replace the smaller horizontal brackets through Harley, they have a newer piece that's been redesigned. Looks stronger, we'll see.
How can you tell without pulling the fairing? Hold the handlebars with one hand and the edge of the bat wing and push/pull. Should be pretty rigid, if it flexes (excessively), chances are you have some busted mounts.

I had mine replaced last month and if u can find a good welder or fabricator u will save a ton of money. I tried the Ebay thing and that was a nitemare, because every one bids on them and shoots the used price sky high. You might as well buy new or repair the one u need.

I have a bad vibration on right side of fairing, sounds like the mirror vibrating inside fairing. Sounds like i have joined the club. Going to take it apart and check it. The vibration is real annoying, driving me nuts. Guess i better check the motor mount also. BUMMER

Count me in...but I think I know why mine was broken. Had to replace both speaker braces, but didn't notice the fairing bracket broken until I saw this thread.

both of mine are broken, im going to menards tomorow to check out the corner bracket you talked about. leave it to a steelers fan to fix the problem. here we go steelers!

I had a annoying rattle in my fairing for a year turns out it was the speaker .
The glue let go and it was sliding up and down like a piston.Take the speaker out and shake it.:

Fairing shakes like a sumbitch at idle. Also when motor is off, grab fairing and wiggle. If there is a fair bit of play where the gauges are and the radio stays put...........you have broken brackets. Both of mine were broken on my 08 SG at 9000mi.
