Unfortunately, I joined the club...broken fairing bracket

mine took about an hour to remove my buddy mig welded it for free. my friend used an&nbsp\\;L bracket and drilled the holes to mount it. took 20 min and holds better than mine!

I purchased a corner bracket at Ace for $.49 Saturday and installed it rather than go through the hassle of replacing the right side fairing bracket that broke.&nbsp\\; It's not as elegant a solution as welding, etc., but I'm sure it will work fine.

for the q about the yr my buddy has an 02 that broke. what happens is the front motor mount is failing resulting in heavy vibration with cracks the supports. try older 90 yr mounts or the buell mounts work also

This is really fuked up!&nbsp\\; If there is a defective part that is failing on all specific years and models why can't we get a recall on this?
&nbsp\\;
I noticed a vibration coming from the left fairing mirror.&nbsp\\; I thought the mirror might just be loose.&nbsp\\; I looked at the front motor mount after hearing these stories and low and behold there is a vertical crack throught the motor mount.&nbsp\\; I guess when I remove the fairing I will see the same thing as others, broken brackets.&nbsp\\; I will post the results later this week after removing the fairing.

Mickey,

I really like your bike.&nbsp\\; That paint looks sweet.&nbsp\\; I like the looks of the EG with just the back rests.&nbsp\\; You have the exact setup I want.&nbsp\\; Enjoy that ride.

I tried your idea about using L brackets for fixing the broken weld and it worked great, at least so far. Have been riding about 5 months with repair, checked it a couple of times and still looks good. Thanks for the tip. It was easier than taking the whole fairing apart. Still might have to later but for now I'm still rolling.

IRideMine...

Yes.. it is covered under extended warranty.. had left one on my 06 Ulra replaced - they found it doing the 10,000 mile service.. cost me $50

Extended warranty also paid to replace the HK radio.. the Aux Input jack broke off inside the radio, so I couldn't plug in my MP3 player.. whole radio was replaced for me - $50

So I guess the Ex Warranty was worthwhile.

I did read on one of the other forums that someone replaced the bracket with a sturdier one, only to find his fairing cracked later.. but it was only one post.

I took the part the that was broken off and welded it back together. Then bent a J shaped of 1 in. wide metal and wrapped it around the end where it broke off, making a pocket where the screw goes. Same thing on small braces. That way, the flex of the stock brace is not compromised. Mine still moves as before. Just make sure that the fairing is adjusted square to the wind. Mine bike wanted to lead to one side when the brace was broke!!!!!
