Unfortunately, I joined the club...broken fairing bracket

Good advice!!!! That is what I love about this forum. I believe with a little help from this forum there is nothing on this bike I cannot fix. The stelaer will not get another dollar from me so thanks guys!
 
Most common on SG's. This is something that the dealer should warranty. Also, on Ebay every now and then you will see stainless ones. They are about $80, but then you are done. The stock ones SUCK!
 
JB, Exactly what I did to mine. I had one side broken and one side good. Installed corner brackets on both sides and it took about 15 minutes to do once I had the outer off when I installed my Tune Trapper.

Well I'm a new club member too! I'm a new forum member, and this is an answer that I would have searched for sometime to find, without this thread! I looked after noticing extra vibration, sure the verticle uprights were broke in the bend. I was prepared to take my bike to a close but not liked dealer. Then after thinking it would happen again, I went to The Home Depot for some 3/4 by 1/8 stapping...I bent the end and drilled the end, Secured to the fairing original bolt, then drilled two holes to the remaining bracket and secured it with 2 locking 10 32 threadbolts. This worked and so there's noneed with ferrying bike to the dealer and waiting 3-5 days...I believe this will work for the look haul. Although the MoCo shouldn't have this issue after all these years...But I guess almost perfect would put thier service dept. on the skids
 
Has there been any pattern of the year that the brackets are breaking -- or is it all across the board with the fairings?

I've got an '05 Ultra -- no known problem, but always on the lookout......
 
I check my 04 police EG 3-4 times a year,so far no breaks in these brackets,is this a problem with all years of the bat wing fairing? or just the newer ones
 
One thing about welding these brackets....well, let me give you a quote from an old timer...
True story...
I was a kid, maybe 14-15 years old tinkering around in a family friend's (Mr. Elmer) old farm repair shop. A local walks in and wants something welded. Back then a stick welder was really all there was around. So the old timer welds the piece for the local and charges him 5$ or something. The local asks, "Mr Elmer do you guarantee this piece not to break again?" "Hell no" says Mr. Elmer. "It broke the first time didn't it?"
I always remember that when i start to weld on a broken part, especially something made out of monkey metal such as this POS fairing bracket. The weld is OK, but you really need to beef up the corners to make a difference.
Just my .02 worth.
 
Out of curiosity, was the bracket from the main support to the speaker housing there. I ask because I had to remove this braket on both sides to install my Hawg tunes speaker upgrade.
